NEW JERSEY DAY OF PRAYER STATUTE
New Jersey Statutes 36:2-34 "A Day of Prayer in New Jersey" designated 1. The first Thursday in May each year is designated as “A Day of Prayer in New Jersey” and the citizens of New Jersey are urged to observe the day in ways appropriate to its importance and significance.

New Jersey Preamble: 1844 and 1947
New Jersey has had three state constitutions: 1776, 1844, and 1947. Although many amendments have been added over time, the Preamble has remained unchanged since the second Constitution of 1844 and the most recent one of 1947.

The Constitution agreed upon by the delegates of the people of New Jersey in the Convention began at Trenton on the fourteenth day of May and continued to the twenty-ninth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-four.
We, the people of the State of New Jersey, grateful to Almighty God for the civil and religious liberty which He hath so long permitted us to enjoy, and looking to Him for a blessing upon our endeavors to secure and transmit the same unimpaired to succeeding generations, do ordain and establish this Constitution.

A Constitution agreed upon by the delegates of the people of New Jersey, in the Convention, began at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, in New Brunswick, on the twelfth day of June, and continued to the tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and forty-seven.
We, the people of the State of New Jersey, grateful to Almighty God for the civil and religious liberty which He hath so long permitted us to enjoy, and looking to Him for a blessing upon our endeavors to secure and transmit the same unimpaired to succeeding generations, do ordain and establish this Constitution.
