Governor Murphy Veto A3446 the "Grindr Grooming Child Endangerment Act"
Gov. Murphy has until December 11, 2024, to sign, veto, or allow the bill to become law without his signature.
The TAKE ACTION message Governor Murphy will receive from you:
Governor Murphy Veto A3446. The "Grindr Grooming Child Endangerment Act" A3446 is a sexual groomer's dream. The fraudulently named "Freedom to Read Act" will exempt school employees and librarians in both public libraries and school libraries from sexually exploiting children with material that in any other setting by anyone else is deemed harmful to minors and a violation of state and federal law. If you're not doing anything wrong, then why do you need an exemption?
National Public Radio reported on the dangers of the gay sex hookup app Grindr. Grindr is explicitly detailed in the book "This Book Is Gay," which is available in virtually every New Jersey school library.
“The gay hookup app Grindr is supposed to be for men seeking men. But many underage boys are using it to hook up with adults, and that can put them at risk of exploitation and trafficking.” That is the conclusion of a report by National Public Radio’s Morning Edition (August 3, 2021)." NPR continues:
“More than 100 men across the United States have faced charges since 2015 related to sexually assaulting or attempting to meet minors for sex on Grindr. That's according to an investigation by the GBH News Center for Investigative Reporting. The list includes police officers, priests and teachers.”
Not long ago, however, your administration, Governor Murphy, understood the threat to children posed by Grindr and other apps. Murphy’s attorney general issued a “parental warning” about these apps when he released the photographs of “child pornography offenders” in “Operation Safety Net”:
The Grindr app is on the panel on the right, top row, center, of apps for parental warning. At the time, the New Jersey State Patrol told parents, "Parents should be afraid. Very afraid."
There is no real justification for signing A3446, the misnamed "Freedom to Read Act." Protecting New Jersey children from potential predators and groomers must be the top priority for New Jersey and its Governor. Please veto A3446
Take more action! Call the governor's office. If you have already called, call again. Get everyone you know to call and ask Gov. Murphy to VETO A3446.
