New Jersey Preamble: 1844 and 1947
New Jersey has had 3 State Constitutions: 1776, 1844, and 1947. Although many Amendments have been added over time, the Preamble has remained the same from the second Constitution of 1844 and the most recently recorded of 1947.

Constitution agreed upon by the delegates of the people of New Jersey, in Convention, begun at Trenton on the fourteenth day of May, and continued to the twenty-ninth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four.
We, the people of the State of New Jersey, grateful to Almighty God for the civil and religious liberty which He hath so long permitted us to enjoy, and looking to Him for a blessing upon our endeavors to secure and transmit the same unimpaired to succeeding generations, do ordain and establish this Constitution.
