Vote NO on A3394 – Protect Homeschool Freedom
10 Good Reasons to Homeschool: Are you a good fit? Focus on the Family
Assembly Bill A3394, introduced again by Assemblyman Sterley S. Stanley, of New Brunswick, would place homeschooling families under unnecessary and intrusive government oversight — despite no evidence of a problem that justifies this expansion of state power.
Parents are the primary educators of their children — not the government.
Homeschooling does not require state approval to be legitimate or effective.
If enacted, A3394 would:
Force families to register with local school districts
Require homeschool curricula to align with public-school standards
Mandate portfolios and evaluations by government-approved professionals
Insert bureaucrats into private, faith-based family decisions
• Many families homeschool precisely because public-school standards conflict with their religious beliefs, moral convictions, or educational philosophy. Curriculum mandates threaten religious freedom and educational diversity.
• Existing child welfare and truancy laws already protect children.
A3394 expands bureaucracy without solving a demonstrated problem.
• Educational diversity strengthens New Jersey — state-mandated conformity does not.
