Adults who pander obscenity to a minor must be held accountable according to New Jersey state law and the laws of the United States of America. School employees and librarians, whether they are in public schools or public libraries, must be held to the same standard as any other citizen. Especially when they have direct contact with our minor children. This bill is dangerous for all school-age children, and it must NOT be signed into law. Veto the misnamed Freedom to Read Act.
State Sen. Jon Bramnick, LD 21, betrayed New Jersey citizens. He gave an absurd speech in defense of passing a bill that has the potential to cause mental, emotional, and physical harm to children in government schools and libraries. He stated that this bill gives guidelines to librarians, which is patently false. He was the only Republican who voted for it. You may call him to voice your opinion regarding his damaging vote at (908) 232-2073.
Democrat State Sen. James Beach, LD 6, was the only Democrat who voted against this harmful bill. Please thank him by calling his office at (856) 429-1572.
Democrat State Sen. Shirley Turner, LD 15, kept her promise to abstain. Please thank her by calling her office at (609) 323-7239

School board elections are nonpartisan. They happen every year and most New Jersey citizens have a difficult time knowing what a school board member is looking to do or how they will respond to their concerns regarding their child's education. The New Jersey Project has gathered information with a list of recommended school board nominees. Click the link below:
