The Holy Innocents – Then and Now
After experiencing the joy of Christmas Day on December 25, we experience the horror of the Bible passage of December 28 when we are reminded of King Herod’s order to kill all the male babies aged 2 and under in the town of Bethlehem because he did not want to share his kingdom with a child. He wanted to assure his political power and control over the people, even to the point of wanton murder of innocent children.
We are rightly horrified at the absolute evil that follows the aftermath of the baby Jesus’ birth. If we take a step back, we cannot imagine anyone carrying out such an order. But they did. In fact, no one so much as raised a hand in objection.
Flash forward to today and we continue with the slaughter of the Holy Innocents for the aim of assuring political power through the killing of innocent children through abortion. We have politicians looking to get the votes of the mother and/or first-line caregiver by characterizing the killing of children as a “right”. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, we have seen a return of a weaponized government attacking the unborn and pro-life supporters. Witness the pre-dawn raids on Christians by the once-respected FBI who pray near abortion clinics. These raids are meant to intimidate and terrorize pro-lifers and the population in general.
Yet, the pro-life side is winning. 14 states have taken advantage of the overturning of Roe v. Wade to put severe limits on abortion. That has saved thousands of lives. Saving lives is a good thing that all right-minded people can agree on. With Roe v. Wade overturned, the abortionists are now forced to go toe-to-toe with the pro-life argument and that is not a winning proposition for them. It pits those who choose death with those who chose life. Ultimately, that is no contest.
Finally, if ever you need to decide to vote for one politician over another without full knowledge of their positions on all the key issues, all you need to do is vote for the pro-life or more pro-life politician. The pro-life position can stand as a surrogate marker for all basic political positions because it represents a basic mindset of the role of government vs. the individual. Consider that if any politician can rationalize a reason that an innocent baby can be violently killed in the womb of their mother, then they can rationalize removing any right from anyone. That means if a politician can justify taking away the right of an innocent baby to live, they can justify taking away property rights, religious freedom rights, freedom of speech rights, civil rights, the right to a free and impartial trial, impose a crushing tax burden and regulatory state on any individual or groups of individuals they please. Those are not popular positions, so no wonder the government needs to resort to intimidating their citizens, through either the courts or law enforcement, to traumatize and hopefully neutralize anyone who gets their way. Do not be intimidated. Choose life, and when voting, choose those who also choose life.
