Congress is facing a defining moment for election integrity.

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

That should be the most basic safeguard in any democracy.

Yet some politicians and activist groups are opposing the SAVE Act, claiming that verifying citizenship would be “too burdensome.”

Let’s be honest.

Americans must verify their identity to board an airplane, open a bank account, or receive government benefits. But we’re told verifying citizenship before voting in federal elections is somehow unreasonable?

That argument simply does not hold up.

Federal law already prohibits non-citizens from voting. The problem is that our voter registration system often relies on applicants simply checking a box claiming they are citizens.

The SAVE Act closes that loophole.

This vote will show whether members of Congress are willing to protect the integrity of American elections — or continue defending a broken system that erodes public confidence.

The Center for Garden State Families believes every lawful vote must be protected and that American elections must be decided by American citizens.

Congress needs to hear from voters right now.
