Several years ago, I was asked a very pointed question by an inquisitive young man. He asked me, “What do you believe would be the greatest regret that this generation of our society would have?”
He continued, “Most likely, there will be a time in the future when we reflect on our past accomplishments, advancements and accolades. What societal choices will we look back upon and cringingly admit, ‘That was a huge mistake. We were wrong. I wish that we would NOT have done that!’?”
So today, let me pose the question to you.
What will be our generation’s greatest regret?
We know that the post-World War II German people regret trusting Hitler. The Venezuelans of the turn of the century regret buying into the pipe-dream that gun-free Socialism could be “well managed and safe.” Even doctors have regrets. The overly optimistic medical professionals of the ‘80s were blind-sided by AIDs because of their successes with other infectious diseases in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Especially in the latter case, new and improved technology, telecommunication and life experience have caused people to look back with regret on their society’s decisions.
No longer can an argument be made for a baby in the womb to be only clump of cells. Advancements in Ultrasound Technology has given us a window into the womb and it is changing hearts and saving lives. In fact, statistics show that 78% of pregnant women who see an ultrasound of their baby reject abortion. The current push in our generation to allow the extermination of babies in the womb is coming to a close because of advances in technology. But, regretfully, those that cling to their antiquated ideals about human physiology remain fixed in their views. They are treating this issue as if they are coldly representing just another side of a political position. In some cases, doubling down on allowing a viable human life to be snuffed out. We saw this recently in New York and Virginia. I believe that our society will look back with regret at the ill-informed and short-sighted policies being promoted by the profit makers of the abortion industry and the very practitioners of abortion themselves.
Washington (CNN) Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam is facing backlash after he voiced his support for a state measure that would significantly loosen restrictions on late-term abortions. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
Gov. Andrew Cuomo speaks during an appearance with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton where both Democrats called for codifying abortion rights into New York State law during a joint appearance at Barnard College in New York. Cuomo says Trump’s Supreme Court nominees “don’t even pretend to be objective jurists. They’ve already announced their intention to impose their morality on the nation and roll back Roe v. Wade.”
can almost hear our regretful future selves warning us,
“All human life is special…full of potential”
“There are other and more compassionate ways for a society to handle unwanted pregnancies”
“We can do better. We must do better or else we are creating an even greater future regret for our society.”
My answer to the question is simple, abortion will go down in history as the greatest atrocity of our generation and our generation’s greatest regret.
